The FAA Prep Library

Eight series, one at a time, each built to its own test.

Part 107 came first and is finished. Private Pilot opens next. Every series that follows is read against its own FAA reference list, written to the standards the FAA publishes for that test, then given its own exam engine.

Remote Pilot (Part 107)

Three volumes, the Digital Set and the 1,447-question Exam Engine.

Exam Engine1,447 practice questions

Every option explained, not just the right one.

  • Take it under test conditions. A clock at two minutes a question, the same pace the real test sets, a flag for anything to come back to, a review screen and a submit you have to confirm. Nothing is revealed until you commit.
  • Or study your way. Answers as you go or held to the end, and sessions as short as you like
  • Weighted to the current FAA blueprint, so an evening of study buys the most points it can
  • A diagnostic that names the chapters and pages to reread tonight
  • Filter by knowledge area, chapter or only the questions you got wrong
Flashcards3,662 cards in 31 decks

Every card carries its FAA rule and the page to reread.

  • Not just an answer: each card gives the reason behind it
  • The FAA rule cited on the card, so you can check the original
  • The exact volume, chapter and section to reread, with no hunting
  • Spaced repetition: cards you miss come back soonest, ones you know come back least
  • Card progress is kept separate from your exam scores, so drilling never dents a practice result

Where this takes you

The next certificate is closer than it looks.

Two routes out of where you are standing. One if you hold Part 107 and want to fly the airplane yourself, one if you already fly and want to add drones. Neither one starts from zero.

If you hold Part 107

  • The same size test. The Private Pilot written is 60 questions in 2 hours at a passing score of 70. So was the one you passed.
  • The same figure booklet. Both tests take their figures from FAA-CT-8080-2H, the supplement you already sat with at the testing center.
  • No ground school required. Section 61.105(a) lets you complete a home-study course instead, and your instructor endorses that you are ready to test.
See the Private Pilot series

If you already fly

  • No knowledge test at all. Under 14 CFR 107.61 a Part 61 certificate holder who is current under 61.56 completes the FAA's free course ALC-451 instead of sitting the Part 107 written.
  • Eight subjects, every one drone specific. Section 107.74 lists regulations, weather effects, loading, emergency procedures, crew resource management, performance, maintenance and night operations. The subjects you already covered as a pilot are not among them.
  • We will show you how to do it free. The course, the form and the identity check are in our guide, with nothing to buy.
How a pilot gets Part 107
Part 107 shortens no requirement for a pilot certificate. What it shortens is the studying. The airspace, radio, airport operations, aeromedical and decision-making you learned for the drone test are the same subjects the FAA leaves out of 107.74 for a certificated pilot.Sources: FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix; FAA-CT-8080-2H; 14 CFR 61.35, 61.105, 107.61, 107.73 and 107.74.
